As we voyage through my site I thought I'd 'natter' about how I like to work as an actor and the type of characters that are currently inspiring me. Personally when accepting a role the most important objective for me is the connection I have with the director. It’s the overall synergy between a lead and the auteur that sets the wheels in motion to fulfil the creative vision laid out in the screenplay. When considering a role I always like to spend time with the director to understand the comprehensive ambition of the project. Operating this way really lays a solid foundation so when on set both the actor and director can work in unison to overcome any obstacles that are thrown up. As a versatile actor I am obsessed with the end product, I always 'break my balls' so that the director, writer/s, studio, producers and any other entity that has a vested interest in the production achieve their overall objective from the shoot. I embrace directors who like experimentation and improvisation to get the most out of the actor, directors who provide the actor leniency and will just shoot and let the actor 'live in the moment'. Frequently unique performances come from creative freedom. Often budgets are tight and schedules can be conflicting so needs of the business also need to be observed but a happy medium can usually be found so that a captivating performance can be delivered both sides of the lens.
Slightly changing direction I wanted to 'waffle' on about characters that seem to be everywhere at the moment. I'm talking about the raft of superhero flicks that I personally feel the studios are
mostly doing a stupendous job with from a creative and visionary perspective. These movies often show our heroes with tortured souls which in turn provides a believability to the audience. With the lead characters questioning their abilities and showing flaws and vulnerability this is a perfect fusion for my viewing pleasure. Films like The Dark Knight trilogy, Black Panther, Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Avengers: Endgame, Doctor Strange, Logan, Batman V Superman etc have all provided not only excellent entertainment but also story driven characters within a complex universe.
On a personal note I believe I could do a great job at playing one of these disturbed life forces,
and hopefully you the reader will agree, and if you don't believe in me then I'll be donning some
spandex tights and a cape and I'll curl up in a corner and sulk! I think I have the physical qualities
and athletic ability, coupled with the acting acumen to deliver a true and authentic portrayal.
In playing any of these phenomenal characters the focus would be on delivering a performance
that would stand the test of time and do justice to these iconic and immortal spirits and also
honour the millions of fans these characters have accumulated over the years. 'You see if you
don't ask you don't get', well that's what my Mom used to tell me as a boy, so here I am asking for
a gig in a superhero flick, cheeky I know but I had to put some grovelling somewhere on my site!
I'm also in awe of the 'swords and sandals' genre with Spartacus, Gladiator, Jason and the Argonauts and Braveheart definitely worth a mention so any director who needs a leading man my moccasins and sponge sabre are washed and buffed and ready to go! With the Mouse House now opening up the Star Wars universe with stand alone characters getting their own movie outing there are several roles I'd love to tackle especially Boba Fett as I used to love the bounty hunter character as a little boy. And a new Terminator trilogy has begun and I desperately need a role in the next offering from the franchise so 'I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle'
or 'I'II be back' ;) I know I'm trying to be a clever smart ass by using cheesy one liners from
a 90's film but that's how I roll!
The next paragraph is me being extremely brazen or in other words taking the piss so
bear with me :) ! On a personal level I really appreciate the underlying psychological edge that
has been inserted into the franchise as I believe as humans we are all just 'a kite dancing in a hurricane'!!! I mean this character is a screen legend and his cinematic prowess has transcended
into modern culture. Oh of course I'm talking bout the Bondster himself Mr James Bond. Now I know, I'm the wrong colour and there’s never been a 'brown' or latte coloured Bond before but my belief is with the development of JB, in terms of his emotional turmoil coupled with his all out physical prowess that it would be a perfect part for me and only me, again my opinion although DC is doing a superb job! Plus it would open up an untapped arena with Black and Hispanic people being able to fully connect to the character which would further enhance the characters global appeal. Now I know this is a serious long shot, so peeps please don't shoot me down, I'm only stating that it would be my dream gig, see my theory is if I don't throw this dream out into the universe no one will know about it apart from me!
